Scenic locations, cool shades, life in the breathtaking mountains, tan leather jackets and almost English lifestyle of fighter jet pilots are cool and enviable to watch.
Karthi as VC has done the role that’s almost comparable to that of a villain. An arrogant, rough fighter jet pilot who doesn’t respect women the way they deserve. Making Aditi Rao Hydari fall in love with him is ok but he turns a villain in the way he treats her.
While Aditi is a gentle beauty falling in love for him. However, this is the whole show all about, a mad love connecting two extreme characters and of course the fairer sex suffers a lot because of the uncertainty in behaviour and decision making traits of men.
However, this forms the base for the love they have for each other. Fight for nothing and apologies that shower immediately after. Karthi as VC has justified his role in terms of looks and acting as well. He is a villain almost and we feel the same way.
Aditi looks like a breeze. Her efforts show in her lip sync and emotions in pixel-tight close up. Rukmini Vijayakumar’s minor role is notable while RJ Balaji’s role turns out to be a mere filler.
Well why do people say ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ is ok to watch. Here it goes.
The lifestyle of fighter jet pilots which looks a bit advanced, though not relatable for most of the audience is admirable. The scenic locations of Himalayas, Leh through the lens work of Ravi Varman are a treat to watch. Thumbs up for all of that.
However, being a love story, logic in crucial parts like the escape plan, jailbreak, chase sequences are big slumps. 2 hrs 20 minutes of love is slightly tiring to watch but for sure this will not be a complaint those who love literature or poetic love stories for that matter.
AR Rahman deserves a temple to be built for him for the background scores. They are equally cool and hot enough ie. adaptive to the situation. Lovely songs, ‘Satrattu Vandiyila’, ‘Azhagiye’ and ‘Vaan Varuvaan’ with Ravi Varaman behind the lens are a treat to watch.
Editor Sreekar Prasad has done the cutting work precisely in all the talkie portions and the art director of the film deserves an applause. Thanks to Vairamuthu and co for the literary Tamil lyrics.
Verdict: ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ is a painting that’s beautiful to see for a while.
